ABOUT THE COLLECTION
They all came to be created after a dog walk. It was one of those bright snowy crisp cold mornings.
The kind of day when your boots scrunch shards of ice and you can barely see for the cloud of frozen breath you exhale.
My regular route took us, my two working bearded collies, Tig and Harper, Kes the lurcher and me along a narrow corridor of wilderness.
Wedged between sheep fields, moorland and the only road through the valley the Manchester to Leeds canal runs for many miles, skirting the Pennine hills in Yorkshire, northern England.
As I strode up the incline beside one of the canal's many locks, I stopped in awe. The rising sun was painting the sky’s few wispy clouds, vivid bright colours. The sky changed from pale pinks, to vivid salmon, deep orange and then reds.
As the dawning sun spilled light into the valley it began to fade the few remaining stars and the moon from view. I watched, mesmerized until the sunlight finally washed the spectacular colours away.
I have seen many other magnificent sunrises but that day I was overwhelmed by the sky above me.
I realised I was seeing just one thin layer of an unimaginable vastness that exists, full of wondrous things.
As I continued my walk I began to contemplate how we are a random collection of matter.
We are just particles of space dust. Everyone of us began with a random collisions of particles millions and billions of years ago, just like every other thing that exists.
A sudden profound sense of my very own existence made me feel for the first time in my life that I had a right to belong.
I wondered, wouldn’t it be wonderful to capture what I felt and the sense of immense belonging?
I began to think, could I as an artist paint that?
I knew it wouldn’t be easy. How could I create what I wanted to say, to show the vast complexity that exists. How could I show our connection and belonging to the world or the universe beyond?
I knew this would challenge my creativity but soon paintings flowed off my brush and with them I began to feel a deeper change. I felt at peace with my place in the universe. I realised I had regained my soul.

ABOUT KERENSA MCKIE
Kerensa Mckie was born in London, England and currently lives in West Yorkshire, England and specialises in abstract and impressionist animal paintings.
Current exhibitions include works on display at the Physio and Therapies Clinic and the Doncaster Art Fairs 5th International Exhibition.
Recent awards include the LightSpaceTime and 11th All Women Exhibition.
As a self-taught artist, Kerensa has achieved recognition from being showcased and having her work collected both nationally and internationally.
When not painting Kerensa can be found in the wilderness soaking up inspiration for her art.
